Actress who sued Amazon over age IDs herself
SEATTLE (AP) ? An actress who filed an anonymous lawsuit against Amazon.com and its Internet Movie Database for revealing her age identified herself in a federal court filing Friday.
Huong Hoang of Texas, may be better known by her stage name, Junie Hoang. She has appeared in such films as "Gingerdead Man 3: Saturday Night Cleaver" and "Hoodrats 2: Hoodrat Warriors."
The actress filed a million-dollar claim against Amazon last fall, saying the company mined her IMDb account to learn her age, 40, and then posted it on her profile ? causing her offers for roles to dry up.
The lawsuit caused a frenzy of online speculation over who the actress might be ? as well as a bit of soul-searching about ageism in youth-obsessed Hollywood.
Women over 40 make up 24.3 percent of the U.S. population, but a casting analysis by the Screen Actors Guild showed actresses over 40 get just 12.5 percent of roles for television and film. Men of that age are also about a quarter of the population, but nearly equal their ranks in casting.
Last month a federal judge in Seattle ordered the lawsuit dismissed, saying the actress had no grounds to proceed with an anonymous complaint. Hoang refiled it under her real name.
She did not immediately return an email seeking comment, nor did her lawyer immediately return a voice message left after business hours.
A lawyer and a spokeswoman for Amazon also did not immediately return calls.
Hoang's IMDb profile says she got her start in dance at 16, was the salutatorian of her high school class and earned a degree in biomedical science from Texas A&M University's College of Veterinary Medicine. It lists her at 5-foot-2, 100 pounds, and suggests she can play characters ages 26-33.
She played Sandy in "Gingerdead Man 3," a sequel to a 2005 Gary Busey movie in which "an evil yet adorable gingerbread man comes to life with the soul of a convicted killer," according to a description on IMDb.
Other credits include a part as a triage nurse in the television series "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant," and as the part of Janet in "My Big Phat Hip Hop Family."

iTunes Match - album cover artwork issues on iPhone and second computer
My original library lives on a mac mini at home. Everything has been ripped from our own CDs in Apple lossless. Most of it is fairly mainstream stuff ranging from rock to rap to pop (the wife) to blues to jazz to classical. During the ripping all CDs were matched correctly as far as I remember and everything is properly named.
I then used iTunes to get album covers. It got most of the covers, but not all. So I got those covers manually and put them in via iTunes.
All of my albums now have album artwork on the Mac Mini.
The problem is that a large collection in lossless takes up quite a of hard drive space and I normally work away from home at least a couple of days a week. This meant that I could not carry my collection with me on my MBA and I hate using external hard drives for stuff like this on a laptop.
I figured that iTunes Match would be a perfect solution. iTunes Match matched most of my songs and uploaded the others. It works now on my secondary devices in the sense that I am able to play the music on both my iPhone and the MBA, but not all of the album artwork is there and I am particularly OCD about stuff like this.
iPhone
As you can see in the screenshots below, the majority of my album covers are in place, but not all of them. At first I thought that all of the album covers that I had added manually were missing. This is not the case though because I've added the artwork for "The Very Best of Smooth Jazz" manually and it shows up on the iPhone.
There is also no sense from a "mainstream music" point of view - I don't expect many people to know bands like Sponge, Our Lady Peace and Silverchair, yet those have artwork on the iPhone, yet Green Day, Pink and Smashing Pumpkins don't? Why do I have artwork for disc one of Death Row Greatest Hits, but not for disc 2?
MBA
The problem here is somewhat different. Basically all of my music shows up and is available to listen/download, but only about 20 of the hundred odd albums have album artwork.
Any ideas?

Man City beats Liverpool 3-0 to open 3-point lead
By ROB HARRIS
updated 6:51 p.m. ET Jan. 3, 2012
Manchester City rediscovered its attacking flair to sweep aside Liverpool with a 3-0 victory Tuesday night that opened a three-point lead over Manchester United in the English Premier League.
Sergio Aguero scored on an early blunder by goalkeeper Pepe Reina, and Yaya Toure and James Milner added goals for Manchester City, which lost at Sunderland and tied at West Bromwich Albion durign the busy holiday period.
"We were incredibly efficient, and it's a great win," City captain Vincent Kompany said. "It is one of the top six teams out of the way, and now we know United and the other teams have to play each other."
On a night of heavy rain, Aguero put City ahead in the 10th minute with a shot that took a slight deflection and bounced past Reina, who dived but missed the ball entirely. Toure doubled the lead in the 33rd with a header and Milner converted a penalty kick in the 75th after Martin Skrtel fouled Toure.
City manager Roberto Mancini apologized later for brandishing an imaginary yellow card at Skrtel.
"In the moment maybe I did that because I was not happy with the referee, but I made a mistake," Mancini said.
City's Gareth Barry was ejected in the 73rd minute for his second yellow card, given for bumping Daniel Agger.
"If you want to be a successful team, and they are one, you have got to be clinical," Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish said. "We've got to get that into our makeup. Tonight we never had that. It's a lesson learned for us."
Liverpool was without Luis Suarez, who started an eight-game suspension for racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra.
City (15-2-3) has 48 points, three more than United (14-2-3), which is at Newcastle on Wednesday.
Tottenham (13-3-3) is next with 42 points after winning 1-0 over visiting West Bromwich Albion (6-11-4) on Jermain Defoe's 63rd-minute goal.
In the night's other game, Sunderland (6-8-6) won 4-1 at Wigan, its fourth victory since Martin O'Neill replaced Steve Bruce as manager. Craig Gardner, James McClean, Stephane Sessegnon and David Vaughan scored for the visitors, who moved into 10th place. Hugo Rodallega scored for 18th-place Wigan (3-11-6).

MADRID (AP) ? Defending champion Real Madrid overcame a two-goal halftime deficit, beating Magala 3-2 in the first leg of the fifth round of the Copa del Rey.
Sergio Sanchez and Martin Demichelis gave Malaga the lead with almost identical headers in the 10th and 29th minutes, but Sami Khedira scored in the 68th, Gonzalo Higuain tied it two minutes later and Karim Benzema got the go-ahead goal in the 78th.
Madrid could advance to a quarterfinal against Barcelona, which hosts Osasuna on Wednesday night.
In other games, third-tier Mirandes won 2-0 at home against Racing Santander, second-tier Alcorcon had a 2-1 home victory against Levante and third-tier Albacete tied 0-0 with Athletic Bilbao.
The second legs of the total-goals matchups are next week.

LIBSON, Portugal (AP) ? American defender Oguchi Onyewu tapped in a cross from 5 yards in the 88th minute, giving Sporting Lisbon a 1-1 tie against Rio Ave in the Portuguese League Cup.
Monday's goal was the third of the season for Onyewu, who scored in the league against Rio Ave in a 3-2 win on Sept. 19 and against Nacional in a 1-0 victory on Dec. 10.

Study provides evidence that retails chains, and not just individual stores, explains variation in price dynamics
NEW YORK -- A study by Columbia Business School Professor Emi Nakamura, Chazen Senior Scholar at The Jerome A. Chazen Institute of International Business at Columbia Business School and David W. Zalaznick Associate Professor of Business, Finance and Economics, featured in the Journal of Econometrics, found that retailer characteristics are crucial determinants of heterogeneity in pricing dynamics, in addition to product characteristics. Alongside Alice Nakamura, Professor of Business Economics, School of Business, University of Alberta, and Leonard Nakamura, Vice President and Economist, Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, Professor Nakamura studied grocery price dynamics. Previously, research based on store scanner data emphasized differences in price dynamics across products. Instead the researchers studied differences in price movements across different grocery store chains. A variance decomposition revealed that characteristics at the level of the chains (as opposed to individual stores) explain a large fraction of the total variation in price dynamics. The study is of particular interest to central bankers and macroeconomists as well as price index specialists who analyze price dynamics.
One reason for why previous studies in this area relied on data that focused on heterogeneity in pricing behavior across products is that product category data is more available in broad-based price databases such as in the research database associated with the United States' Consumer Price Index (CPI). In this new study, the researchers decided to use a dataset consisting of millions of price observations per year at a large number of grocery stores in numerous retail chains to document the nature and dispersion of high frequency price dynamics across stores and chains in addition to products. The researchers constructed weekly average prices (i.e., unit prices) for products defined at the Universal Product Code (UPC) level by dividing store level dollar sales by the sales volumes.
The empirical analysis confirmed that temporary sales, which occur frequently in many stores, are important determinants of price dynamics in the United States. To investigate the implications of this phenomenon, Professor Nakamura and her colleagues compared price index measures calculated using all prices and those calculated using only "regular prices" (i.e., using only prices excluding temporary sales). The study found that a substantial amount of the variation in the prevalence of sales across stores is accounted for by differences among chains.
Another key finding of the study is that the measurement of temporary sales matters for inflation measurement, analysis, and forecasting purposes. The results show that the implications of temporary sales for index number measurement cannot be ignored when constructing price indexes. In addition, the study reveals that retailer characteristics are crucial determinants of heterogeneity in pricing dynamics.
In terms of future implications, conclusions about the importance of chain-level pricing can potentially help improve the efficiency of CPI sampling. The results also imply that the chain drift problem, the possible bias that can arise when separate price indexes are linked, will not be solved solely by averaging data across stores within retail chains.
The study's analysis is based on proprietary scanner price data, consisting of weekly price and quantity observations for product sales at grocery stores across the United States. The scanner dataset is from a national sample of hundreds of grocery stores belonging to numerous grocery chains. The dataset represents over 20 billion dollars of retail sales annually for thousands of UPCs, with tens of millions of observations per year.
