Welcome to the first installment of Boston Sports This Week, to be featured every Monday on SB Nation Boston. In these articles, we will give you the rundown of everything on the schedule for Boston sports teams each week.
Boston Red Sox
After successfully completing an interview with Tim Wallach, the third base coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers, last week, the Red Sox will turn their attention for former Houston Astros' catcher Brad Ausmus. The National Jewish Hall of Fame inductee has spent the past two seasons working as a special assistant to baseball operations for the San Diego Padres. The interview with Ausmus is scheduled for Monday.
Boston Bruins
This week was supposed to mark the beginning of the Boston Bruins' season and the opening of the team's first home-stand, to be kicked off with a showdown against the rival Montreal Canadiens. However, the league's third lockout under the direction of current commissioner Gary Bettman has beset hockey fans' hopes for regular season action this October. Rumors have suggested that the two sides plan to restart negotiations by the middle of this week. How serious this set of talks will be is yet to be determined.
Boston Celtics
After dropping their preseason opener in overtime to the New York Knicks on Saturday evening, the Boston Celtics will be back on the court taking on the 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Monday evening. This will be a busy week for the new-look C's, who have a home-and-home series scheduled against the Brooklyn Nets and a rematch with the New York Knicks on Saturday in Albany, New York.
New England Patriots
After a demoralizing defeat at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks this past Sunday, the New England Patriots find themselves at 3-3 and in a four-way tie for first place in the AFC East. They will face off with one of those division rivals this week at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro as Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow and the New York Jets come to town for the Patriots' first home game against a division foe of the 2012 campaign. A loss against New York would put the Patriots in a really rough position, so a great performance from Tom Brady and company will be of upmost importance.
Boston College Football
A 51-7 blowout in Tallahassee against the Florida State Seminoles is now in the rearview mirror and the Boston College Eagles will look to turn things around this week against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. It won't be an easy go for the 1-5 Eagles in front of a rowdy Atlanta crowd and against one of the ACC's best running attacks.
Hockey East
The Boston College Eagles will visit the UMass Minutemen on Friday evening before returning to Chestnut Hill for a rematch with the team who upset them this week at Matthews Arena, the Northeastern Huskies. Saturday's contest will be the only game of the weekend for the Huskies. The Merrimack Warriors will be off to Alaska this week for games against the University of Alaska and the University of Alaska-Anchorage on Friday and Saturday.
