Gilbert F. Schmidt, 79, Austin, Texas

Gilbert Frances Schmidt, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Sun City, Georgetown passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2012. He was 79 years of age. Ralph and Hazel (Sendke) Schmidt welcomed their son, Gilbert, into the world on January 4, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri. He married his best friend and companion, Jo Ann (Brant) Schmidt on January 5, 1952. Together, they celebrated 59 years of marriage before her passing in 2011.

Gilbert settled with his family in the Houston area where he worked with the DuPont Company. In 1993, he retired after 32 years of employment as an Account Manager. Eventually he and his wife moved to Sun City to be closer to family and continued their enjoyment of the retired life. He was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church, in Georgetown.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Schmidt and father, Ralph Schmidt.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Gilbert Jr. and Dede Schmidt; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Karen Schmidt; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Craig Shepard; son Ralph Schmidt; granddaughter Becky Schmidt; grandson Adam Schmidt who serves in the United States Army; grandsons Scott and Robby Shepard; grandsons Brant and Nicolas Schmidt; and her brother-in-law, Gary Davidson; along with his mother Hazel Schmidt.
