London 2012 Track and Field Schedule: Lolo Jones and Other ...

The Olympics has been a mixed bag for Iowan competitors so far.

Gabby Douglas, who has lived and trained in West Des Moines the last two years,?recently secured a gold with the United States gymnastics team. She is prepared to compete for individual gold on Thursday.

Two University of Iowa Hawkeye swimmers -- Heather Arseth, a current swimmer, and Dragos Agache, an alumni -- failed to medal after swimming for their respective countries.

Another former Hawkeye swimmer who later transfered to the University of Florida, won a gold medal along with Michael Phelps and other teammates on the 4X200-meter relay.

But what remains beyond that is the track and field events:

  • Former Hawkeye and multiple Big Ten championship winner Kineke Alexander is competing in the 400 meters on Aug. 3, representing St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Her first heat will be on Aug. 3 at 6:40 a.m.
  • Former Iowa State Cyclone Lisa Uhl will be competing in the women's 10,000 meters, also on Aug. 3 at 3:25 p.m.
  • Another former Hawkeye, Diane Nukuri-Johnson, who lives and trains in Iowa City will be running for her home country of Burundi in the women's marathon competition on Aug. 5 starting at 5:00 a.m.
  • Des Moines native Lolo Jones, a track and field celebrity and hurdles specialist, will be competing in the first round of 100-meter hurdles on Aug. 6 at 4:05 a.m. (our time), then if she passes on she will compete in the semifinals on Aug. 7 at 1:15 p.m., and then potentially the finals at 3 p.m. that day.
